We are delighted to announce that our Director of Operations Paul Orsi has been promoted to Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Foresters. Fellowship of the ICF is an honoured position and an acknowledgement of dedication, experience and achievements, only awarded to members who show a significant contribution to the profession.
Paul has over 27 years experience in the forestry sector and has been a professional member of the ICF since 2007. His career has included private sector woodland management and the management of a large traditional estate. For the last 11 years he has been a director for Sylva Foundation and has led our Forest and Land Programme. During his time with Sylva, Paul has supported and led a transformation of the organisation in particular developing our flagship myForest platform which is being used to support over 9% of Britain’s privately owned woodlands, as well as leading on development of the Sylva Wood Centre in South Oxfordshire.
Sylva Foundation is extremely supportive of the ICF, with our CEO Dr Gabriel Hemery (also a Fellow) having served on the council in the past and co-ordinated a national conference. Paul has served on the Professional and Educational Standards Committee for a number of years and hopes to do more to support the institute in the future.
Talking of the award, Paul said:
“since joining Sylva in 2013 I have learned to appreciate the role that the ICF has in maintaining the stature of forestry and arboriculture with the government, the public and with other industries. I was an Associate member in the mid 2000s when the ICF were looking to merge with RICS and I am really grateful to everyone at the ICF (members and executive) who have transformed it into the thriving organisation that it is today. Being awarded a Fellow means a lot to me as it is recognition from my peers that I have made an impact in the forestry sector.”
Huge congratulations to Paul Orsi FICFor.
