myForest has launched a major sharing update, allowing all users to initiate property shares and introducing new role-based permissions for better team collaboration.
myForest is a flagship project for the Sylva Foundation. Our mission is to combine forestry expertise with information technology to provide innovative solutions to the environmental challenges facing modern society. By providing comprehensive online mapping and digital tools, we aim to encourage sustainably managed forests and support the creation of new woodlands across Britain.
We know that bringing unmanaged woodland back into management, or creating new forests from scratch, is rarely a solo effort. Whether it’s a landowner working with a contractor, an agent collaborating with a colleague, or an owner passing on stewardship to the next generation, the ability to work together on the same maps and data is essential.
While myForest Agent accounts have been able to share properties for some time, the popularity of the feature led us to develop a more flexible version for everyone. This major refresh is now live for all users.
What’s New?
The main changes we’ve implemented are:
- Sharing for Owners: It isn’t just for Agents anymore. Owner accounts can now initiate sharing, making it easy to bring in family members, agents, or contractors to view or help manage a property.
- Share with existing myForest users: It no longer matters if the user already has a myForest account; when you share with them, your property will be automatically added. Unregistered email addresses will be invited to create a myForest account in order to access the shared property.
- Professional Collaboration: Agents can now share properties with other Agents. This makes it much easier for colleagues to collaborate on the same project..
- Simple Property Transfers: Whether a management contract is changing or a property has been sold, transferring the data to another user is now straightforward.
- Clearer Interface: The new sharing dashboard shows exactly who has access to your property and what their permission level is, allowing you to make changes in seconds.
Better Control: Role-Based Permissions
To make collaboration more secure, we’ve introduced three specific roles:
- Collaborators can edit mapping and data, and view or download outputs.
- Editors have all the rights of a collaborator, plus the ability to edit property details and manage sharing with others.
- Property Managers have full control, including the ability to transfer or delete the property.

These features are available to use right now. When you next log in, you’ll find the updated sharing options within your property settings.
