The Wood Centre will be open to the public for Oxfordshire Artweeks, on 17th/18th May 2025, 10-5pm.
This year marks 10 years since the Sylva Foundation Wood Centre opened in Long Wittenham. Over the years the site has been transformed from a derelict farm to a thriving base for all our work dedicated to reviving Britain’s wood culture, the stewardship of woodland and the use of forest produce for a sustainable future. You can see how the buildings looked before work started on our old blog post here. If you’d like to see what the Wood Centre is like now we invite you to join us as we open to the public for our 10th year taking part in Oxfordshire Artweeks.
The Sylva Wood School will open its doors to meet our tutors, see the work emerging from the 6 week course as part of our Woodworking and Gender project, learn about our current range of short and long woodworking courses and our collaborations with industry.
Our tenant community of skilled craftspeople will be exhibiting their work making with wood.
The House of Wessex will be open with the living history society Wulfheodenas demonstrating various crafts including weaving and metal work.
And the pop-up Hardwood Cafe will be serving drinks and cake.
There are several other local artists also exhibiting nearby. Full details on the Artweeks website.
