Colin Henwood is an award-winning boatbuilder with 40 years experience of building, restoring and caring for wooden boats.
Before setting up his workshop at the Sylva Wood Centre, Colin ran a successful boatyard in Hambleden where he gained a reputation for exceptional, high-quality craftsmanship. Most of his work has been on traditional Thames boats from the 1880’s to the 1960’s, where carvel planked launches and fine clinker skiffs predominate. Whether building a new launch or restoring vintage boats Colin pays close attention to every detail, harnessing his experience, skill and intuition with the timber.
In addition to boat building Colin is a fully insured marine surveyor and consultant specialising in wooden boats. As well as pre-purchase and insurance surveys, he is frequently commissioned to provide advice on all aspects of wooden boat ownership. Colin regularly writes for WaterCraft Magazine and runs practical courses at The Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis as well as the Sylva Foundation Wood Centre.
