We are pleased to announce the availability of four spaces for people interested in renting workspace at the Sylva Wood Centre and joining our special community of woodworking businesses.
Applications are welcomed from people who work with wood and who are interested in our dedicated facilities. Users are referred to as ‘Members’ of the Sylva Wood Centre community.
Generally we will assess an application against the criteria:
- commitment to the ethos and vision of the Sylva Wood Centre
- quality of your work and craft
- professional approach
- entrepreneurial business approach
- presentation of submitted work via provided images
- collaborations and connections in the sector
- how securing a place at the Sylva Wood Centre would benefit the applicant

Incubation Units
We have two Incubation Units becoming available this summer. The Incubation Units are designed to help new businesses to become established and to thrive. Both units are offered on a three-year commercial lease. Rent is reduced by 50% in Year One, by 25% in Year Two, and is charged at a full rate in Year Three. The three-year lease is not extendable (i.e. at the end of the lease the unit will be made available to a new user).
Given the high value of these spaces, we would expect an applicant to have a sound business plan for the three-year period.
Both units offer:
- Access to shared machinery workshop (charge depending on usage)
- Service charge included (access to kitchen, toilets, parking and WiFi)
Unit 4 Grain Store
- Available from 1st July
- Size – 428 sqft
- Rent: Year One £2,000, Year Two £2,900, Year Three £4,000 (including VAT)
- Electricity – charged at cost
- Business rates – tenant is liable for business rates. This unit is currently eligible for 100% Business Rate relief.
Unit 7 Potato Store
- Available from 1st September
- Size – 296 sqft
- Costs: Year One £1,350, Year Two £2,000, Year Three £2,700 (including VAT)
- Electricity – charged at cost
- Business rates – tenant is liable for business rates. This unit is currently eligible for 100% Business Rate relief.

Complete the online application. This is designed to help us shortlist eligible candidates. If we believe you are a suitable candidate we will arrange to meet with you face-to-face to talk about your needs and understand more about your business plans. You will not be asked to submit a detailed written business plan, but we will want to see that you have clear plans to develop and build your business during a three-year period.
Start-Up Bench Spaces
We have two Start-Up bench spaces becoming available this summer. The Start-Up bench spaces are designed to help new businesses and are available for a maximum of three years.
The bench spaces are within a large space shared with other bench users. Spaces are marked out and provide space for users to store equipment and materials, and to work on projects. Electricity points are included. Access is provided to a shared machinery workshop which is charged at a reasonable rate.
There is no formal lease associated with a bench space. One month notice period is required either way.

Single Bench Space
- Available from 1st July
- Size – 75 sqft
- Costs: £240 per month (incl VAT)
Double Bench Space
- Available from 1st September
- Size – 150 sqft
- Costs: £400 per month
