Sylva Wood School

View our courses

We established the Sylva Wood School to plug significant gaps which exist in formal wood education. Ultimately, we want to support a revival of Britain’s wood culture through excellence in creativity and craftsmanship using home-grown timber.

Our aims are to:

  1. Stimulate an innovative and skilful approach to design and craft in home-grown timber.
  2. Educate the next generation of consumers, designers, craftspeople, and woodland owners to ensure growth in the value of trees and timber.
  3. Support the next generation of designers and makers in wood, helping to bridge the gap between education and professional life.
  4. Create inspiring experiences and opportunities for young people to experience making with homegrown timber.

We provide a growing range of courses at the Sylva Wood School under two main categories:

Maker Sessions enable course participants to learn new skills and take away a beautiful object. Examples include coat hooks, greenwood stool making, steam-bent lightshades, ash canoe paddle, and more.

Woodwork Sessions are designed to hone your skills and techniques. Examples include dovetailing, steam-bending, hand-planing, and more.

"I can't think of anything that could have improved a perfect couple of days – I will be signing up for another one soon."

Gift vouchers are available for courses, providing a helpful discount for someone special. To find out more visit our shop.
