This year the Sylva Foundation is delighted to be a supporter of Scotland’s Finest Woods Award. The award chimes perfectly with the recent expansion of the support we offer to Scottish woodland owners through the myForest service.

Volunteer intern Dr Zia Mehrabi is working with Sylva to help develop a strategy for monitoring the health of UK woodlands using the myForest service.
This week we unveiled a plaque celebrating the close working relationship between the Sylva Foundation and Grown in Britain, and the innovation of thermally-modified hardwood cladding sourced from sustainably managed British woodlands.
Sylva Foundation CEO Gabriel Hemery talked about wood culture at Confor’s Westminster conference earlier this week. He called for more collaboration between organisations to create a strong and coherent voice for forestry, in all its guises.
As part of an Innovate UK-funded project, we are working with Grown in Britain, the Building Research Establishment (BRE), and others in the timber supply chain on a project looking at hardwood timber supplies in UK construction.

The Winter lecture series at the Architectural Association’s Woodland Campus at Hooke Park, has been announced. Sylva Foundation’s Dr Gabriel Hemery is part of the line up of speakers this year. He will be talking about woodland culture and the making of The New Sylva on Wednesday 2nd December.
This week we are excited to be listing in the auction perhaps some of the most impressive and iconic images from the book. These include the cedar of Lebanon featured in the frontispiece, and the box woodland at the Chequers Estate (the Prime Minister’s residence) that adorns the cover of The New Sylva.
